Summer Events in Zadar Region

From the tiniest hamlets to towns filled with thousands of visitors, summer is the time of year when Zadar region really is on the move. With concerts of different music styles, celebrations of traditional food and culture, one-of-a-kind fun events where anyone can participate, it is very easy to find interesting happenings to attend, mingle with the crowds and simply enjoy the excitement of summer. Here are a few suggestions for visitors to Zadar region:

Fine dining

Delicacies that represent typical Dalmatian food can be found in many good restaurants along the coast. However, food festivals give visitors a great opportunity to try many different specialties in one place. Sometimes there are even examples of traditional food from different parts of Croatia and not necessarily only Dalmatia. One such event is the so-called ‘Long Table’ in Biograd na Moru (beginning of June), ‘Šokolijada’ in Nin (mid July) which is dedicated to pork-meat product šokol as well as the ‘Night of the Full Moon’ in Zadar (also in July).

Dance with culture and tradition

Speaking of the Night of the Full Moon, it is much more than just an event where visitors can try traditional food. In fact, it celebrates the centuries-old co-existence of the islanders and people living on the coast and in the Zadar hinterland and it shows the culture, traditions and customs so characteristic of people living by the sea. Similarly, Pag island spends the entire summer filled with cultural events during which visitors can enjoy music and dance performances which often include the exquisite folks costumes with the famous Pag island lace. Needless to say, many other villages and towns along the coast have their festivities with lots of music, traditional ‘klapa’ singing and excellent food. One of the most famous events is ‘Saljske uzance’ held on Dugi Otok island beginning of August.

Fun with unusual

‘Saljske uzance’ begin and end with donkeys, which guarantees excellent entertainment. After all, there’s only room for laughter when the donkeys hit the street in a race. Pure fun and positive vibes also happen when a few thousand people dive or jump into water from the waterfront in Zadar. The Millennium Jump  is one of those events you simply have to be a part of if you happen to be in Zadar region end of July. It’s just an impressive sight to witness and even better to participate. And if it’s not written in the stars for you to be in Zadar at the time, you can turn to sun for some magic  and see how Nin welcomes the summer in the Church of the Holy Cross with the Festival of the Sun and Light.
