What to Do in Zaton - a 7-Day Itinerary

Sea, sand & sun - the whole package is undoubtedly there at Zaton Holiday Resort and the summer holiday can start - water splashing, sunbathing, reading some light literature, making sandcastles, playing a round of adventure golf, to name but a few fun summer activities. But why not explore historical cities such as Zadar and Nin, sail around the wonderful Kornati islands or visit the breathtaking national parks? The 7-day itinerary suggests a few great things to do for families and individuals who wish to experience a fulfilling holiday.

Arrival day

After a few hours or even the entire day on the road, there's nothing better than to finally arrive at the holiday destination. Don't let the travel fatigue get to you, but rather give in to the excitement of the holiday week ahead and just rest. Once you've unpacked the bags, head for a dinner to our Ventula Restaurant and begin the delicious culinary journey with the Mediterranean menu. After dinner, opt for a cocktail at the Summer Splash Bar and just relax under the starry sky with the sound of waves hitting the shore.

Day 1 - exploring the resort

Take a stroll through the resort and discover the amenities and activities available (restaurants, cocktail and beach bars, animation programmes, kids' and teens' clubs, swimming pool and the beach, water sports and sporting facilities on land, and many other entertaining activities and events). Head to the beach and spend a relaxing afternoon there just enjoying the sun and the sea. In the evening let our animation team entertain you with their performance at the theatre.

Day 2 - roaming Zadar

All eyes are on Zadar, a historical city not far from Zaton. Take your own car or public transportation and forget about parking. Grab a cup of coffee in the very heart of Zadar just a stone's throw from the remains of the ancient Roman Forum and, do as the Zadrans do, sip it for an hour as you enjoy the sight of the most prominent landmarks - the Church of St Donatus and the Cathedral of St Anastasia. Climb the cathedral's bell tower and you'll be amazed by Zadar's skyline and the view of the islands. Head to Pijaca (the marketplace) and buy some fresh organically grown local produce while witnessing the unique buzz of the place.

Take a break from sightseeing and have a lunch on a terrace of a restaurant in the old part of the historical peninsula. For dessert, visit the Museum of Ancient Glass and buy truly unique souvenirs, or pick a few as you stroll along Kalelarga (officially Široka ulica), one of the best-known streets not only in Zadar but in Croatia in general. As you head to the promenade, stop by at the monastery within the complex of St Mary's church and visit the permanent exhibition the Gold and Silver of Zadar. Round off your trip to Zadar by listening to a truly unique sound as produced by the Sea Organ. Don't leave before the sun sets, because you'll want to witness the most beautiful sunset in the world as Zadar sends its greetings to the sun with a one-of-kind light installation.

Day 3 - just relaxing

Have an enjoyable, carefree day at the pool or the beach without having to worry about finding entertainment for kids. While they meet and play at the kids' club or just hang out with peers at the teens' club, take up a sport or participate in one of the many activities available, the parents can also try out an animation programme to their taste, since they are available for all age groups. After lunch, the entire family can enjoy a round of golf at the Adventure Golf course. The best way to round up such a relaxing family day is by having a light dinner at Gradele (our signature Croatian grill). As you pamper your palate with local specialties, take a moment to truly appreciate the idyllic beach ambience.

Day 4 - taking a trip

Set sail to an island of your choice. The Zadar archipelago is full of hidden gems, and we suggest visiting the Kornati Islands or Silba island. Take a swim there and became immersed in the breathtaking beauties of nature. The trip is organized by the resort, so it begins and ends here.

Day 5 - cycling and sightseeing Nin

Hop on the bike and spend the morning by visiting the near-by Nin. Don't miss the historical core of the important historical town, admire the smallest cathedral in the world - the Church of the Holy Cross and learn about the tradition of salt production in the Museum of Salt. Don't forget to purchase a truly unique souvenir, such as the 'flower of salt' which has great nutritional benefits. Once you get back to Zaton, spend the afternoon in a relaxed mode or just continue with further activities, such as water sports (jet-ski, parasailing, SUP etc.). Let the children get the taste of the large playground with climbing nets and other pieces of playground equipment.

Day 6 - trip to the mainland

Opt for a trip to the mainland and get to know the breathtaking nature. Choose between the lakes and waterfalls of the Plitvice Lakes National Park or Krka National Park. The travertine cascades and the scenery in either of them are true wonders of nature. On the way to the Krka National Park, don't miss the opportunity to visit Šibenik, one of the loveliest cities on the coast. Adventure seekers might also enjoy a canoe safari along the Zrmanja river canyon - another awe-inspiring natural beauty. If you prefer a bit of refreshment, off-road safari on the Velebit mountain is the perfect choice. The views of the sea, islands and green mountains you get to take home are simply unforgettable. For those who prefer to finish a great holiday with an adrenaline boost, there's a posibility to go bungee jumping off the Maslenica Bridge.

Day 7 - time to say goodbye

All good things come to an end. As you pack your bags and wave goodbye to the resort, lock the lovely moments in your hearts and memory. After all, there's always the next year.
