What to Do in Northern Dalmatia in September

Families with toddlers and kindergarten-aged children, couples looking for some romance and active holiday seekers love to stay at Zaton Holiday Resort in September and explore the region while there. The sea might be a bit cooler even though it is still possible to swim and the weather is pleasant, mostly warm and sunny.

It is the ideal time of year to enjoy the change in nature and be active in order to recharge before gloomy weather sets in. There are a number of things to do in northern Dalmatia this time of year and here are a few suggestions:

1. Be active by the sea

Take a morning stroll along the beach to enjoy the peace and quiet. Or go for a walk later in the day as the sun rays paint a lovely picture on the evening sky. Similarly, you can hardly find a better moment and place for jogging, if you prefer to be even more active.

Cycle to explore the hinterland

2. Cycle to explore the hinterland

Hop on a bike and visit places nearby, such as Nin or villages like Privlaka, Petrčane or Vrsi. It’s a great bike ride for families and you get to see wonderful villages. More experienced cyclists can also use many available trails in northern Dalmatia for more challenging cycling trips.

3. Play ball in Zaton

Zaton is an excellent choice for fans of tennis, since the resort has a great tennis centre. Similarly, mini golf doesn’t get better anywhere else in Dalmatia and it’s pure fun for everyone.

Take a tour of historical cities

4. Take a tour of historical cities

Follow the traces of history and plan a trip to Šibenik and Zadar, visit their famous historical sights, find out more about their past and explore their modern attractions. Don’t miss smaller towns, though, such as Nin, Pag or Novigrad and enjoy the charm of a traditional Dalmatian town.

5. Taste traditional food

Take your time and discover the exquisite tastes of Dalmatian cuisine. Don’t miss the opportunity to try traditional pork product, Nin’s šokol, as well as Pag island cheese and lamb specialties. Taste simple typical Dalmatian fish meals such as grilled sardines and other delicious specialties. Also, don’t forget to combine your meal with Dalmatian wine from Ravni kotari, which has a long tradition of wine production.

6. Visit national parks

Since the heat is not likely to strike in September, the time is just right to visit the national parks in the region. A boat ride to see Kornati Islands National Park together with Telašćica Nature Park is more pleasant and yet equally breathtaking. Also, you can admire the amazing colours of early autumn in Paklenica National Park while hiking its trails and appreciate the lovely nature in one of Croatia’s most visited national parks, Krka, with far less crowds.

7. Check out the events calendar

High season may have passed, but there is still a lot going on! From sports championships, such as mini golf in Zaton, to music and fairs with traditional products, there are plenty of exciting events to see all over northern Dalmatia.
